Custom Fit
American Golf proudly provides golfers with the option of purchasing custom fit clubs from our website. Our renowned free custom-fitting service which is available both online and in-store guarantees to build made to measure golf clubs in order to improve any golfer’s game. While the majority of golf clubs are available to be custom fitted, we provide the option of ordering only custom-built clubs from PING. Within our custom fit clubs category, golfers are able to purchase custom built PING clubs of all types such as Drivers, Fairway Woods, Hybrids, Sets of Irons, Wedges and Putters. Depending on which type of clubs you wish to order, there are a range of options available each explained below.
Dexterity
We gladly cater for both dexterities of golfers as our impressive selection of custom-built clubs are available to be ordered in both a right-handed and left-handed setups.
Set Options
By taking advantage of our highly popular custom ordering process, you can pick and choose which clubs you wish to add or remove within your set. If you're ordering irons but you don’t want a 4 iron and instead want a GW, you can simply order the clubs you require as the choice is completely up to you.
Bounce
Bounces are only based on when a golfer orders a wedge or a set of wedges. A bounce on a wedge is the angle at which the difference is between the leading edge and the lowest point of the wedge’s sole. A wedge with a higher bounce is best suited to the average golfer as these provide more forgiveness by enabling the golfer to generate more spin and similarly to sets of irons, it can help improve the outcome of a badly executed shot. Wedges with a lower bounce can be found predominantly in the bag of the more elite player as these provide the most precision for when a player is critically concerned with accuracy and thus doesn’t require forgiveness. Within our custom fit wedges, you can take full advantage by selecting the bounces that are right for you and at no extra cost
Loft
Depending on the model, our custom fit clubs can be ordered in all different types of loft to best suit the golfer. If you are a person who struggles from the tee and launches their driver too high, then you're best off ordering a lower lofted driver. Ultimately if you are fancying a set of irons, lofts can be altered to perfectly gap your distances.
Shaft
Each club aside from the putter features a selection of different shaft options available. Whether you’re looking for a graphite set of irons as opposed to a heavy steel set, or looking for an extremely heavy extra stiff driver, by custom ordering we can provide the most suitable shaft to match your swing speed.
Flex
There are various different flex options to be ordered including Ladies’ Ultralite, Lite and Men’s Senior, Regular, Stiff and X-Stiff flex shafts. The most suitable flex option is dependent on a golfer’s clubhead speed, the two should correspond with each other in order to match the club’s ability to bend parallel to the speed of the golfer’s swing. This allows the golfer to feel in complete control of the clubhead’s path and thus prompting a more confident delivery towards impact. Choosing the wrong flex would hinder a golfer’s clubhead speed and so forth their distance, accuracy and consistency which is why we recommend taking full advantage of our custom fitting process.Shaft Length Adjustment
Shafts are available to be shortened or extended depending on a player’s height. For example, normally if a person is between 5 ft 7 inches and 6 foot their irons should be at the standard length. If they are taller than 6 foot, depending on how much so, each iron should be extended by at least by 0.5 inches. The same applies if a golfer is smaller than 5 foot 7 inches, as they would want their clubs shortening by a minimum of 0.5 inches. Ultimately, the correct length is critical in order to provide a golfer with the best possible preparation to gain a strong posture, which will help deliver the best possible strike.
Lie angle
Clubs can be ordered in the form of a tailored lie angle for the individual. In order to identify this, we start our custom-fitting process by taking your height, wrist to floor measurement and then place you on an impact board to locate the best lie angle suited to yourself. Usually, a player who is much taller would be found to be more beneficial with a club of an upright lie angle and so for a smaller person this would be the opposite with a flatter lie angle being more suited.
Grip
We also provide an array of grip styles and sizes to make sure your clubs will feel as comfortable but also controllable when rested between your hands. Depending on your hand size, a certain grip size and style will provide you with the most comfort and control when gripping each club. Usually if a player has larger hands, then a thicker grip which includes additional layers of tape underneath the grip is most suitable. Within our custom ordering process for each club type there are various grip alternatives available to order at both no extra cost and some with an upcharge.
Our impressive custom fit golf clubs category provides the opportunity for players to order clubs fine-tuned to themselves from any location by the touch of a button. All though this is a highly advantageous service made even simpler and quicker, we still recommend finding your local store and experiencing one of our free custom-fitting sessions so that you know what your ordering is perfectly sound for you.
Custom Fit Golf Clubs Frequently Asked Questions
When to get fitted for golf clubs?
Regular golfers should arrange for a golf club fitting every 5 years. Generally, you’ll find that your most loved and well-used clubs like your wedges, drivers, and irons need to be checked and replaced every 2 years due to the amount of heavy lifting they do during your golf games. Putters, because they see far less frequent use in singular games and tournaments, last for years and years and therefore don’t need to be as readily replaced
Where can I get my golf clubs fitted?
You can get your clubs fitted with American Golf! We stock plenty of custom fit golf clubs from renowned brands like Ping, where you can customise your club’s dexterity, loft, shaft length, and grip, and you can shop online for these. However, we always recommend visiting us in-store so we can fit golf clubs to your exact measurements and needs. If you’ve already visited us in store and know your measurements, then go ahead and shop online with us! If not, use our handy store locator to arrange your American Golf club fitting in store.
Do I need custom fit golf clubs?
Generally speaking, custom fit golf clubs are a sound investment for any keen golfer, especially if you play regularly and to a competitive or proficient level. If you’re entering tournaments, play once a week or more, and take pride in your handicap, you will definitely benefit from custom golf clubs. Beginners will of course benefit from these too, as every tool tailored to your specific needs is bound to benefit you, but this is an absolute must for detail-orientated golfers.
This is because we can find the right shaft length for your height, the right sized grip for your hands, and the correct lofts for your different clubs. Every aspect that can be tailored to you, will be.
